The Ministry of Health has confirmed three Mpox cases in Kitgum District, with two reported in Kitgum Municipality and one in Namokora Town Council.

Titus Komakech, the Surveillance focal person, expressed concerns about the potential spread of the disease in the region. He emphasized the need for improved preparedness and response to the Mpox outbreak, noting that all three cases are being managed at home and responding well to treatment.

Komakech highlighted the importance of vigilance and preventive measures, stressing the role of community awareness in curbing future infections. He urged residents to remain alert and follow guidelines to prevent the spread of Mpox.

In 2024, Uganda recorded 1,182 Mpox cases as part of a larger outbreak in the WHO African region, where 19 countries reported 17,602 laboratory-confirmed cases and 60 deaths. The Democratic Republic of the Congo had the highest number of cases, followed by Burundi.
