Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omala has died.

Omala's death was confirmed this morning at Mulago Hospital in Kampala after a prolonged battle with cancer.

He retired from the police force in 2020 upon reaching the age of sixty and spent much of his retirement dealing with health challenges, often being in and out of hospitals.

As the former Kampala North Police operations commander, Omala gained recognition for his role in suppressing Kizza Besigye's 2011 walk-to-work protests, earning a reputation as a 'tormentor' among opposition figures.

Notably, in November of last year, Omala sought forgiveness from those he may have wronged, including Dr. Kizza Besigye.
